Step-by-step guide
OK, let’s get started.
There are many ways to support small businesses during the pandemic. Here are some of our favorites:
1. Support restaurants by ordering pickup on a weekly basis. Order pickup from 2-3 (or more) locally owned restaurants every week. Ordering pickup helps reduce the fees that restaurant owners have to pay when using services like UberEats, GrubHub, etc. Of course, ordering delivery is still a way to support your restaurants, so if you must, that’s okay. Don’t forget to leave a tip for pickup or delivery.
2. Support independent creators by shopping online at Etsy. If you’re shopping online, rather than going straight to the big name brands, consider buying on Etsy. Etsy is an online marketplace where independent creators and small business owners sell their products. They’ve got everything from vintage clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories, toys, art supplies, and much more.
3. Support mom-and-pop shops by purchasing gift cards. Swap out the Barnes and Noble gift card for a gift card to a local joint instead. The family-owned businesses in your area are struggling…small bookstores, boutique shops, bakeries, hair and nail salons, yoga studios, coffee shops, delis, and much more. Go online or call and see if a place has gift cards. If they do, consider purchasing gift cards from a couple of these places as birthday gifts for friends or family.
4. Support all small businesses with positive reviews. Leaving positive reviews is a super easy way to help small businesses. It shouldn’t take more than two minutes of your time, so try to leave a positive review whenever possible. Even if your review helps to influence a couple more customers, it makes all the difference.
